Bills in the Legislature
During this year’s session of the Nebraska unicameral, the Women’s Foundation sent letters to Senators and registered comments on bills that had the potential to affect women and girls in our state.
Childcare issues were the main topics of several bills that could lessen the pressure on facilities that face certification regulations and high costs, as well as help parents who face difficulty finding qualified daycare as well as being able to pay for services. The Women’s Foundation participated in weekly seminars on bills that involved childcare conditions.
We also weighed in on Paid Family and Sick Leave, Child Tax Credits, and home nursing visitation for new mothers and families. These are all issues that, if passed, could improve the lives of Nebraskans. Other issues that we believe in are securing women’s rights, strong public education, affordable housing, and ensuring voting for all eligible voters.
Although not all the bills that we highlighted were passed, we remain committed to our advocacy for women and femmes in Lincoln, Lancaster County, and the state.
